Course Description

Take full advantage of fall and winter gardening, and get a jump start in spring. Fall is the perfect time for learning about clearing out and composting the debris of summer plantings, what to plant to provide food over the winter, and how to prepare tools, soil, and plans for the spring.

In this series, students will learn:

  • FARM AND GARDEN PREPARATION
    • Fall and winter vegetables basics and spring preparation including bed building, how to mix seed starter soil, and high tunnel transplanting; building a compost pile and brewing compost tea; season extension strategies; winter cover crops; and walk-behind tractor training.
  • PLANT IDENTIFICATION
    • Native woody and herbaceous plant identification including weeds.
