Course Description

Proactive and Undercover Investigations is an introduction to the tools available to and methods employed by investigators working proactive cases, with an emphasis on narcotics and vice investigations. The course provides students with an overview of how to plan and steer an investigation from the moment of identifying the targets all the way through the process of litigation and conviction. Students will learn what tools are available, how to effectively employ them, who to reach out to for assistance, and the practical and legal issues surrounding each topic. This class will take the student from a passive/reactive role in observing a case unfold, to a commanding role, building a case as lead investigator of a group or task force, employing, the use of informants, prosecutors, paralegals, forensic accountants, analysts, and other highly trained professionals.
