Course Description

The lesson plan examines those individuals who communicate threats or other “unusual” communications to others, specifically in the school environment. This includes the identification of the offender, motivation, evidence of mental illness and threat management. This course emphasis is identifying the difference between those who make a threat and those who pose a threat. This course includes specific case studies such as stalking/threatening political and media persons, mentally ill threateners and anti-government “true believers.”

What causes a “normal” teen to become a mass murder?  Can they be predicted and prevented?  This course examine the various theories of the cause of school shooters, warning signs, assessment and intervention techniques.  This course will include case study presentations of would be mass murders; one of which planned to use a homemade destructive device rather than a firearm.
