Course Description

This class is an intense course for the first line supervisor and will cover a wide variety of topic areas.

 

Students will:

  • Engage in a review of emotional intelligence and self-awareness
  • Time management and managing employee work schedules
  • Techniques to effectively deal with problem employees
  • How to avoid allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate behaviors
  • Use of force, pursuit, and vehicle crash administrative investigations
  • Leading During and Managing Active Scenes/Dynamic Incidents/Officer Involved Shootings
  • Basic Duties – Handling Internal Complaints, Taking Disciplinary Action, Supervisor as Trainer and Effective Use of Roll Call
  • Motivating Employees
  • Creating Professional Culture
  • Mitigating Citizen Complaints and Minor Policy Violations/Complaints
  • Tips for Motivating Staff; Avoiding a Toxic Work Environment
  • Leader Thought Process (Communicating Expectations and Making Unpopular Decisions)
