Course Description

As technology expands, so must our knowledge and means of utilizing the technology as an asset in our investigations. With the latest statistics indicating that over 90 percent of the world's population uses cellular phones as the primary means of communication, law enforcement officers need to understand and have knowledge of the means to exploit that communications as part of all major investigations. In this two day 16 hour course, officers will be exposed to the basic knowledge of social media and cellular information and records and how those records can be obtained and used as part of a criminal investigation. The course will further cover such
topics as basic cellular theory and function, how to properly and legally obtain cellular and social media records, examination and exploitation of call details records, cellular mapping techniques, NC electronic surveillance laws, pen registers, global positioning, call records research, and the use of electronic surveillance as part of criminal operations.
