Course Description

The curriculum for the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) educational program is the most current release of the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) National Education Standards. The course prepares students to provide prehospital assessment and care to patients of all ages with a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. Areas of student include introduction to emergency medical service systems, roles and responsibilities of the EMT, anatomy and physiology, medical emergencies, trauma, special considerations, and transportation. The course also prepares students who may enter the healthcare system to work in a variety of clinical settings as well as those who wish to continue their training in the AEMT or paramedic program. In addition to the National Standard Curriculum requirements, this course includes the NC Office of EMS transition material and the North Carolina specific required modules.
