Course Description

Tool marks and linking them to a particular tool or instrument will be discussed.  Apparels worn on the foot, such as tennis shoes, boots, and sandals will be examined.  This course will include the review of the computerized compilation of shoe sole designs for the purpose of associating a crime scene impression with a manufacturer or to link crime scene impressions from one scene to others.  When a tire contacts a surface, it results in the transfer of the class characteristics of design and size and possibly of wear and individual characteristics.  These concepts as well as the path of a tire that contacts the road surface and contains a design will be evaluated.  Basic steps for identifying and recovering footprints, shoe impressions, and tire tracks will be demonstrated.
