Course Description

This two-day course is designed to be highly interactive, and student participation is required

Students will gain knowledge and explore the benefits of transitioning beyond the S.A.R.A. model and will engage in thought provoking concepts, theories, and practices of community policing through adult learning activities, class discussions, work groups, instructor feedback, power point, and media presentations.

Students will learn:

  • The basic principles of leveraging internal and external resources and assets to control crime
  • A deeper understanding through class discussion and group projects of crime reduction strategies and their application and impact on crime control efforts
  • To define, compare, and contrast the benefits of establishing and maintaining community engagement through effective communication

Students will be challenged in thought and class discussion on the meaning and impact of procedural justice, the importance of establishing and maintaining trust between the police and the community.
