Course Description

This course is intended to ease an officer's transition from the academic setting to the performance of general law enforcement or detention duties. 

Although an officer graduating from the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) or Detention Officer Certification Course (DOCC) has received a thorough introduction to basic law enforcement and/or detention subjects, that officer cannot be expected to immediately function as an experienced officer. 

Subjects to be covered include:

  • Motivating trainees/goal setting
  • Developing and administration of a FTO program
  • Trainee performance and evaluation
  • Training liability issues
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Leadership principles
  • Principles of adult learning
  • Ethics/employee misconduct
  • Selecting a Field Training Officer
