Course Description

This 16-hour course is designed to update law enforcement personnel about people in crisis and how to assist the 'consumer' and/or relatives or friends of the crisis consumer calling for assistance.  Many times, the telecommunicator could directly assist the consumer and/or collect information to relay to the officer dispatched to intervene.

The benefits for law enforcement; specialized training enhances community policing efforts and decreases the use of force during the crisis significantly reducing the risk of injury, cost savings in time money, and resources, and an appropriate alternative to arrest and incarceration for the person in crisis.  Benefits for the individual; better relationships are developed between individuals and law enforcement, the stigma of incarceration in local jails is removed, and consumers receive more time efficiently, and therapeutic assessments and treatment.
